Program Overview

CARE in the West Bank and Gaza has worked with Palestinian communities since 1948. For the last 13 years, CARE has been implementing programs in Palestinian communities in agriculture and natural resources, economic development, education, emergency relief, health, water and sanitation and civil society strengthening.

CARE has a long term commitment to engage with Palestinian communities in development processes that enable them to determine their futures, realize their rights and live in peace and dignity. We aspire to achieve this by:
  • Meeting the humanitarian needs of the most vulnerable Palestinians in times of emergency.
  • Developing the livelihood capacities and social positions of the most vulnerable communities by working in an integrated and sustained way.
  • Strengthening the processes and structures of governance in Palestinian organizations.
  • Advocating for the development, humanitarian, and governance priorities of vulnerable Palestinian communities on the basis of sound policy analysis and field experience.
  • Extending our sphere of understanding and influence through stronger linkages with a wide range of development partners.
CARE International is currently working with Palestinian communities in the West Bank and Gaza to implement programs in food security and livelihoods (agriculture and micro enterprise development); governance (civil society strengthening and local governance); health (emergency medical assistance); and water and sanitation (community management of water resources and infrastructure development). Our humanitarian and development assistance program currently reaches over 800,000 people in the West Bank and Gaza.

CARE embraces a holistic approach to programming that integrates themes of gender, advocacy, rights, and household livelihood security in order to address poverty and vulnerability. As a result of its field presence, CARE has longstanding relations with Palestinian communities and civil society.
