| Regional Overview CARE International has been working in the Middle East for nearly sixty years. CARE first established a presence in Jordan and the West Bank and Gaza to respond to the refugee crisis stemming from the first Arab/Israeli conflict. In 1954, CARE commenced operations in Egypt, with basic service projects. CARE has been working in Yemen since 1992, where operations have evolved from basic relief, through reconstruction after the 1994 civil war, to the current portfolio of development projects. In addition, CARE France has recently established CARE Morocco. In the MENA region, CARE currently works through a regional management unit and four national offices operating programs in six countries and territories: Egypt, the occupied Palestinian territory, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. Currently, we have programs throughout the region across a range of sectors including: girls and basic education; water and natural resources management; local governance and civil society strengthening; conflict resolution and humanitarian aid with a specific emphasis on assisting refugees and internally placed people. |
