| Program Overview Founded in 1954, CARE Egypt works with the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, facilitating economic opportunities in agriculture and the micro-finance sector; advancing girls’ education; capacity building and development for civil society; promoting rights-based approaches; and governance and local water management. By promoting self-generated strategies and community resource mobilization, CARE work closely with the poor to ensure they secure more healthy and productive lives on a sustainable basis and helps build linkages with civil society, government and the corporate sector. CARE is one of the leading development organizations in the Egyptian education sector. Over the past three years, the organization has built and furnished 70 schools with 770 classes that offered 30,360 primary educational opportunities mainly for girls and 170 Multi-grade schools that offered accelerated education opportunities for 6000 out of school girls over the past three years. In agriculture, CARE has also had significant impact in recent years, assisted in establishing and providing technical assistance to 125 community development associations and farmer associations, and assisted with the formation of 3 agricultural networks. Working with over 12,000 farmers in Upper Egypt, our staff helped increase rural incomes by 126% and created 26,500 new full-time jobs. In all of its programs, CARE Egypt strives to mainstream principles of good governance, such as accountability, inclusion, transparency and equal treatment. A prime focus for CARE throughout all of its work is to involve citizens in realizing their roles and responsibilities and to strive to solve local issues in a practical and culturally relevant manner. |
