COUNTRY DIRECTOR - CARE INTERNATIONAL EGYPT
 
Position Title: Country Director
Location: Cairo, Egypt
 
Description
CARE is seeking an experienced Country Director, who has a sound understanding of the current realities of the Middle East region, to lead CARE Egypt’s program at this challenging time. The Country Director (CD) ensures CARE's work in Egypt contributes to the vision of ending poverty.  The CD oversees the development, funding and implementation of the country office strategy and a program portfolio (including emergency programming) that effectively addresses the underlying causes of poverty.  S/he develops and maintains strong relationships with host government officials, donors, the private sector and a growing number of diverse partners.  The CD ensures systems and processes are in place for the proper management, staff safety, stewardship of resources and effective knowledge sharing. The CD is a champion for achieving Gender Equity and Diversity, fosters an organizational culture where the core values of Respect, Integrity, Commitment and Excellence are practiced, team work is promoted and all staff feel valued. The CD reports to the Regional Director for the Middle East and Eastern Europe and is an integral part of the Regional Leadership Team. The CD successfully guides the organization through the implementation of the new long range strategic plan, which calls for significant changes in CARE's resource base, mode of operation, and a process of organizational evolution. The CD should be highly skilled at managing change and motivating others to achieve a shared vision.
 
Requirements include:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (master’s preferred).
  • 10 years experience in a senior management position in the development field. Demonstrated experience in leading strategic and operational planning.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills in a very complex international setting.
  • Ability and interest in coaching and developing staff, strong financial knowledge and experience, including complex budget management and donor compliance & reporting.
  • Experience in cultivating and maintaining partnerships & collaborative relationships with national & international NGOs as well as with donors & government counterparts.
  • Experience and skills in organizational change processes, including aligning organizational structure to strategic goals and promoting diversity and gender equity and managing a diverse workforce
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English
 
Desired
  • Arabic language skills
  • Experience and knowledge of operationalizing a rights-based approach
  • Experience in development of program support systems and operational procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with proposal development with range of international donors (i.e USAID, EU, DFID,CIDA)

ASSISTANT COUNTRY DIRECTOR - CARE INTERNATIONAL YEMEN
 
Position Title: Assistant Country Director - Programs
Location: YEMEN
Reporting to: Country Director
Terms: Fixed term contract – 2 years
Closing Date: 01 June 2008
 
Under the direction of the Country Director (CD) and as part of the Country Office Senior Management Team (SMT), the ACD Programs will play a key role in setting the strategic direction of the Country Office (CO).  They will oversee all programs and projects and will be responsible for ensuring the establishment and management of processes to support high quality development and implementation.  They will lead senior managers ensuring best practice in both people and program management.  In conjunction with the CD they will perform representational and fundraising duties and will ensure that CARE’s vision, mission and core values are promoted.

MIDDLE EAST & NORTH AFRICA COORDINATOR

CARE International in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is looking for a MENA Coordinator to be based in our Regional Management Unit in Cairo.  Working closely with the regional team, the Coordinator will provide support and oversight to CARE’s country offices within the region. The post holder will lead in the implementation of a Regional Program Strategy focusing on Gender Equity. In addition to ensuring a high level of engagement from within CARE regarding the strategy, the coordinator will also be required to engage with relevant external institutions working in the region.  The successful applicant will have sound international development experience and considerable knowledge of programming in the MENA region.  Fluency in Arabic would be a distinct advantage.  Please find attached a copy of the position description.
