TEMPORARY PROGRAMME ASSOCIATE

CARE INTERNATIONAL - YEMEN

CARE International in Yemen is looking for a short-term Programme Associate to provide temporary support to its programmes in Yemen.

Since 1992, CARE International has been working in Yemen with the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, facilitating economic opportunities in income generation activities; advancing women’s literacy and girls’ education; capacity building and development for civil society; promoting rights-based approaches; and promoting local natural resource management including water. A prime focus for CARE throughout all of its work is to involve citizens in realizing their roles and responsibilities and to strive to solve local issues in a practical and culturally relevant manner. CARE is also committed to engage in relief activities in the case of emergencies and has contributed to humanitarian responses by I/NGOs to IDPs affected by the continuing conflict crisis in Saad’a through developing an Emergency Response Plan, while also increasing our activities in support of UNHCR’s work with East African refugees.

Terms:

Commitment: Minimum 2 months, extendable up to 4 months

Stipend: USD 1300/month

Start date: Immediately (Early February 2010)

This is a non-standard position with CARE

 Key tasks:

  • Report writing. Drafting, editing and completing progress narrative reports to donors. Ensure reports are up to standard and follow donor requirements. Coordinating the submission of narrative donor reports.

  • Supporting the development of donor proposals, including conducting research, writing up sections, coordinating with partners and supporting submission of the proposals.

  • Supporting the coordination of project baseline studies and evaluations: drafting TORs for consultants, helping coordinate the logistics of data collection, editing reports.

  • Supporting the start up of two new CARE projects in Yemen

 Qualifications/Experience:

  • Excellent English writing skills, essential

  • Experience in report writing in NGOs, desirable

  • Living or working experience in Yemen or the Middle East, desirable

  • Working or volunteer experience in an NGO, desirable

  • Ability to adjust quickly to a new environment, essential

  • Team player and eager to learn quickly, essential

  • Commitment to gender equity, essential
